159. Irene M. Kastner "Brua" (as we say here) Rank: 29

Land: Norway

Yrke: newspaper carrier

Trekkhundklubb: Hakadal Sledehundklubb

Antall år med hundekjøring: 6

Kennel navn: Team Nilsebråtån

Husky (as in the original word, meaning "something of almost everything")

Ant. hunder: 21

I gave up on counting them a couple of years ago.

Besides spending time in company with dogs and horses and all sort of stuff containing lenses I enjoy myself finding new ways of failing to cook eatable meals. I also have a very relaxed attitude towards vacuum cleaning my car.

Hadelendingen, Varingen -and (since I´m on their pay list) one of this nation´s bigger newspapers (which definitely should contain more articles on mushing, so go grab your pencils, guys, the time is NOW!)

Seriously -why would anyone want to pay for my ego trips?

Langdistanse erfaringer:
Løp/ år/ plassering - inklusive alle gangene du har fullført Femundløpet:

Femund 300/400/600: 2005, 2006, 2008, Finnmarksløpet 500: 2005, 2008, 2010, Pasvik Trail 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 all driving the truck (I´m a handler, for heaven´s sake -and don´t you go saying that doesn´t count!) On sled though... Drevsjøløpet and HamarLangen 2009 plus Drevsjøløpet and Pasvik Trail 2010 which make up for about 600 km all together. So if we (some detours included) make it to the finish line in this race, I´ll be about twice as experienced as I was at the start (and hopefully still feel like I have a lot more to learn).

Hvorfor langdistanse / Femundløpet:
Fun is what lasts longer than the time needed for preparation. And why Femundløpet? Because Geir Wiik cannot run all his 16 dogs through this race all by himself to find out which of them he wants in his team for the Finnmark 1000 four weeks later. I wish though it wasn´t the World Championships at the same time (I´m not playing in that league!). However, that´s beyond my control so I´ll look at the bright side of it: Geir has great dogs, so this is bound to be fun! Also, Bjørn Haugbjørg and Tone offered me to be my handlers, should I ever run this race. Bjørn knows all the secrets of mushing from the old days up to today and Tone was almost born on the trail and sucessfully keeps backing me up whenever I feel the world has turned upon me. Last but not least, I´m looking forward to have Søvollen´s official check point mascot Frigg look through my food drops!

Målsettinger og strategi for årets løp:
I´m looking forward to NOT having to arrive at the check points before Geir does (Remember to put your food drops on the truck, not in my sled, honey. And sorry, no Solo and chockolate for you from me at Tufsingdalen this time, either.). Apart from that, I´ll do my best to stay out of anyone elses way. It´s a pity this is a competition and I have to keep an eye on the clock, now that I´ve finally got the chance to take whoever is left in the kennel, disappear into the woods and not be seen for another 400 km or so.

Ledere i Femundløp-spannet/ navn/ alder:
Sisu (5). If she runs, she´ll run in MY team, because she´s mine! Apart from that I don´t know -guess I´ll find out when I see who´s left on the truck. Since Geir hasn´t listed her, I hope to find Sisu´s sister LaLinja there. The two girls just belong together, separating them from each other would be cruel. Finishing the race with more lead dogs than I started with sounds like a plan to me.

Spesielle hunder i Femundløp-spannet:
Bror (13) -Robert Sørlie once said that you win the race with the dogs you leave behind. Bror will be in charge of my team of cheerleaders, and I´m really depending on his moral support!
