In order to be able to facilitate the Femund Race each year we are completely dependent on volunteer efforts from about 600 volunteers. Would you like to volunteer at one of the check points? In the starting area? At the finishing line? Please get in touch with us today.

Who can register as volunteer?

Anyone who:
-  enjoys physical activities and would like to work in the outdoors, in close cooperation with dogs and participants
-  likes to work with people and provide service
-  likes to be where it happens when it happens
-  can handle little sleep and busy days with lots of things going on at the same time

Tasks handled by volunteers:
-  technical related tasks
-  admin tasks
-  arena tasks
-  trail guards
-  check point tasks
-  working at the opening ceremony and at the award ceremony/banquet
-  helping out at the starting and finishing area

Volunteer veterinarians

We also seek veterinarians with interest in sports medicine to take care of the canine athletes. If you are interested in volunteering as a veterinarian or a vet assistant (this is possible for veterinary students) please  contact our head vet Annette Kriller.

Criteria for becoming a trail veterinarian at the Femundløpet are:

  • A minimum of 5 years veterinary practice experience (predominantly small animal)
  • Previous experience with racing/working sleddogs
  • Ideally membership of the ISDVMA (application form:  http://www.isdvma.org/images/Application.PDF)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • In good standing with the veterinary board in the country of origin/of work
  • Understanding and speaking English
  • Ability and willingness to: 
    - work with others in a team
    - perform outdoors in a cold climate
    - to work long hours outside with little sleep
    - be flexible and able to adapt quickly to new circumstances

Volunteer translators
We are also seeking translators that can work during the whole year translating texts and articles for our website from Norwegian to English and vice versa. This is a job that can be done from anywhere in the world as long as you have a computer and an internet connection!
