Neither the dogs can escape the control before they can set of from the startline. A total of almost 2000 dogs have to be checked. The picture shows Arild Jøssund checking the dogs of Christian Christensen.
The dogs are top athletes and are carefully checked by a big team of veterinarians. All dogs have a micro-chip right below their skin that has to be checked by the veterinair. The dogs health and vaccinations also have to be approved before the start. Because of the micro-chip it is easy to verify the identity of the dog and cross-check it with the vaccination pass.
Happy to return
The veterinarians come from both Norway and other places in the world. Jøssund normally works as a veterinair in Sømma in North Norway, but is happy to be a race veterinair for dograces both in- and outside of Norway. With the help of a chip-reader she reads a code out loud, which Nora Thormann writes down. She is from Germany and was a part of Femundløpet for the first time last year. - I liked it so good that I was happy to return.
